How the pump curve is used
As system resistance rises, pump flow falls. The stored curve contains multiple flow/head points such as 0 GPH @ 9.5 ft, 200 GPH @ 8 ft, 390 GPH @ 6 ft, 500 GPH @ 4 ft, 610 GPH @ 2 ft, 800 GPH @ 0 ft. ChillSizer interpolates between those points and searches for the operating point where pump head and system head are approximately equal.
If the curve is an approximate digitization rather than a full manufacturer table, the confidence grade is lower and marginal recommendations are treated conservatively.
What lowers operating flow
- Small hose diameter, especially over long runs.
- Fine or dirty filter cartridges.
- Multiple elbows, restrictive valves and reducers.
- Internal chiller pressure drop.
- Any inline accessory added after the pump was originally sized.
Pump watts also become part of the thermal model
A submerged pump transfers most of its electrical input into the water as heat. An inline pump transfers a smaller fraction. For small chillers and warm conditions this can be a meaningful part of the holding load, so ChillSizer includes a pump-heat band instead of ignoring it.
When this pump is a good fit
It is a good fit when the modeled operating flow clears the selected chiller’s minimum with useful margin and does not exceed any stated maximum. If the result is marginal, reducing system resistance can be a better solution than jumping to a much larger pump.

Does 800 GPH mean I get that flow through my chiller?
No. Rated max flow is normally measured near zero head. Real flow is lower once the system adds resistance.
Can I fix low flow with a larger pump?
Sometimes, but reducing restriction with larger hose or a lower-loss filter can be more efficient and easier on the system.
Is this pump big enough for a 1/2 HP chiller?
The HP label does not determine required flow. Compare this pump’s operating point with the exact chiller minimum-flow specification.
